How Clarity Baltimore evaluates your eyes

Eye Doctor Baltimore MD Clarity Eyecare

During your eye exam, Dr. Howai (Jenny) Chan will use a device called a phoropter, which helps measure the extent of vision problems including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The device also determines the correct eyeglass prescription to help you see with clarity.

A more old-school method is to use something called a trial frame. With a trial frame, which looks like a pair of cyberpunk glasses, lenses are swapped out manually to measure your eyeglass prescription.

Using a trial frame in addition to the phoropter can help ensure some patients have their new prescription correctly fitted in the perfect place on the glasses.

The trial frame is utilized mainly for patients who find sitting at a phoropter uncomfortable — or younger patients who can’t quite reach the phoropter.
